
Background
Inaugurated in 1990, Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (SMOPS) is an annual event organized by Hwa Chong Institution. In 2002, SMOPS was renamed as Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) as it includes overseas centres from Asia Pacific countries. In 2017, it introduced Junior SMOPS in Singapore open for Primary 5 students.
Eligibility:
* Primary 6 students or equivalent
* Primary 5 students from Singapore schools only
(P5 students may participate in Round 1 only)
APMOPS registration usually opens from early January to end of February each year.Parents are advised to check with the teacher-in-charge in their respective schools for specific registration arrangements.
For APMOPS 2026:
* Primary 5 students are allowed to register individually for the competition.
* Primary 6 students must be registered through their schools. For Primary 6 participants, no individuals or external organisations are permitted to register on their behalf.
Format:
There are two rounds of competition for APMOPS: the Online APMOPS Round 1 and the Invitation Round.
- Online APMOPS Round 1:
* Held in early April.
* P6 participants: Conducted at their respective schools.
* P5 participants: Conducted at home or at another suitable venue. - Invitation Round:(P6 Only)
* Top performers from Round 1 will be invited
* Up to 10 participants from each overseas centre will be invited, subject to 1 invite per 50 participants

The contest is usually held in April every year.
